KKK Rally this month in Southern Kentucky

As many of you know, the KKK is scheduled to have an "Aryan Bash" in Pineville, Kentucky --- one weekend before the opening of Middlesboro Little Theatre's production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" at the Bell Theatre in Pineville. According to an article written by Andrea Schneider, a staff writer for the Middlesboro Daily News, the Appalachian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and several associated groups plan to rally this month.

Who would have imagined that this type of hate would still be around? I doubt even Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. thought it would go into the next century. LGBT icon Coretta Scott King, his widow continued the fight for universal equality long after her husbands death.

This type of rally and the attention it draws serves no other purpose than to re-segregate our communities; deny them an audience!

For anyone who is interested in doing something positive, here is a suggestion: The Middlesboro Little Theater raises money each year for college scholarships for high school seniors who have participated in community theater during their high school years. These scholarships range from $500 to $1,000, depending upon how much is raised.

UPDATE: We did not post the dates because the best possible thing that could happen is that they be totally ignored by the public. The Anti-Defamation League has posted several dates in Kentucky, but the one in Southern Kentucky is the only event that has received media attention.

Thank you for notifying people about this. Are we suppose to be scared or something? Do they just have to have someone to hang or run off the road? They have a bad reputation don't they?

Marisa Anders, editor of the Middlesboro Daily News, is the person to contact concerning why the original article did not verify the times and dates of the KKK event. She also should be called to task for putting the article on the front page of her paper as if it were announcing the annual Santa Claus Parade.

Anders is a conservative editor who masks her basic mean-spiritedness with big hair and a soft-spoken Southern belle attitude. It would not surprise me if she actually supports bigoted, homophobic organizations like the KKK. Her e-mail address is manders@middlesborodailynews.com

From what I can gather from local sources (I live in Bell County), they seem to think THEY are an "oppressed minority" of kindly white folks who are upset with uppity black folks like Barack Obama, whom they think is a "Muslim" with a loudmouthed Christian pastor who preaches hatred against kindly white folks like themselves. They do not explain how a Muslim can have a Christian pastor, they just spread the word. Needless to say, they also do not like Melungeons, Jews, liberals, feminists, gays and people whose religion does not involve snake handling. They also say that the original KKK was founded on Christian principles based on the bible.

Don't shoot the messenger --- I'm just reporting what's being said around these parts.

I dont think this story should have made it as on the front page of the paper. All this does is give them what they want, attention.

You are correct. The Middlesboro Daily News is the only paper to cover this at all, and they made it their lead story. They assigned a reporter to work on it, yet many other public events --- such as the Middlesboro Little Theatre's production of "The Diary of Anne Frank," which opens the weekend immediately following the KKK's rally --- will only get coverage if the organization submits a press release, which the editor will then rewrite and probably shove somewhere inside with the dubious byline "Special to the Daily News," whatever that means, on it. It's interesting that the editor making decisions picks articles that promote bigoted organizations but ignores or plays down stories promoting positive views of historical tragedies.

why do the state of ky let this shit go on?they say its freedom of speech but all i can see is freedom of hate.we do not need this in bell co,and i wish we could put a stop to it.there is just one race and thats the human race,do to others what you want them do to you,god bless everyone.

...(I live in Bell County), I live in another and I have also been told that, "They also say that the original KKK was founded on Christian principles based on the bible." Do they really believe this, what color was their Jesus suppose to be? What color is their God? I think they are just a bunch of bigots! I was told that is how it started and some of them got out when it came to them using the real violence like lynchings and things of this nature???, that they only slapped some men around to begin with? Those that wouldn't take care of their families or those that abused their kids? Reckon that is how all the stories started getting started about all the children in the world being abused? That might be an interesting concept to consider?
